The EtherCAT EL5xxx series terminals enable precise measurement of position, frequency, displacement and angle using a variety of displacement encoder technologies, both absolute and incremental.
The Beckhoff EtherCAT – EL5101-0010 terminal is an interface designed for direct connection to incremental encoders with differential signals (RS422). Its maximum input frequency of 5 MHz makes it particularly suitable for dynamic applications. In addition, the terminal offers two additional 24 V digital inputs that can be used for saving, locking and setting the meter reading.
The EL5101-0010 terminal allows the connection and analysis of encoder error messages via a dedicated status input. 5V and 24V encoder power can be supplied directly through the terminals of this terminal.
- The terminal allows you to save, block and set the meter state, which is important for various applications.
- The terminal has a built-in frequency and period measurement, which allows for precise monitoring of encoder signals.
- The device is capable of recognizing an open circuit, which is important for detecting possible problems with the encoder.
- The terminal enables synchronous reading of position values by using distributed EtherCAT (DC) clocks.
- A timestamp is available for the last recorded encoder incremental edge.
In addition, the EL5101-0010 allows precise measurement of period or frequency with a resolution of 100 ns. The terminal supports the synchronous reading of encoder data along with other inputs in the EtherCAT system by utilizing accurate distributed EtherCAT (DC) clocks. The product also offers the ability to use predefined encoder profiles, which makes it easy to combine process data in motion control applications.
Even in the case of complex systems, EtherCAT terminals with numerous functions allow you to create simple and effective automation solutions. Thanks to the distributed clock function, position values can be synchronized with other processes, which is extremely important to ensure coherent system operations.
