The Beckhoff CX Series of Embedded PCs innovatively combines PC technology with modular I/O levels to create compact, DIN-rail mounted industrial controllers.
The Beckhoff CX5000 Embedded PC – The CX5020 is a versatile PC based on the Intel Atom® processor. The CX5020 uses the Intel Atom® Z530 processor with an increased clock frequency of 1.6 GHz. It has built-in hyperthreading technology. This advanced feature allows for more efficient software execution by providing two virtual CPU cores that can run simultaneously.
The purpose of the CX5020 is highly flexible and depends on the installed TwinCAT runtime. These computers can be effectively used to implement PLC (logic control) projects and projects that combine PLC and motion control. Depending on your needs, the visualization features can be turned o
Beckhoff CX
The Beckhoff CX series are advanced devices that provide the ability to directly connect Beckhoff I/O series terminals directly to the right side of each embedded computer. The process is extremely simple with a physical click, eliminating the need for additional couplers and reducing wiring effort.
Connecting I/O systems directly to the CX computers has several advantages. First of all, it allows you to avoid the costs associated with additional couplers, contributes to the simplification of the wiring process and allows you to create compact industrial controllers in control cabinets. Thanks to this, the designed control cabinets and terminal boxes can be smaller, more economical and more effective.
Bus terminals (IP20), EtherCAT terminals (IP20) and EtherCAT Boxes (IP67) are suitable for direct connection of I/O systems.
These embedded computers are characterized by a solid construction, which makes them mechanically robust and can be used even in harsh environments, showing high resistance to vibration and shock. They also offer an extended temperature range from -25°C to +60°C (storage temperature from -40°C to +85°C), which allows them to be used in various conditions, including places with elevated or reduced temperatures. This robust and compact design opens the door to many industrial applications, ensuring reliability and performance.
The computers have been optimized for strength and compactness, and the housing is made of metal (magnesium) for better shielding, protection against electrostatic discharge and lightweight construction.
The CX5000 series enables the implementation of various levels of I/O using both fieldbus terminals and EtherCAT terminals. The use of an EtherCAT connection offers many expansion options. Additional master/slave bus connections (such as PROFIBUS, CANopen, DeviceNet) and communication interfaces (RS232, RS422/RS485) can be directly connected as EtherCAT terminals.
The CX5000 devices have two independent Gigabit Ethernet ports and four USB 2.0 interfaces. You can also connect a Beckhoff control panel or DVI monitor using the DVI-D interface. Unlike other CX product families, the CX5000 series does not support expansion with extension modules on the left side. However, there is a factory-fitted option slot in the base housing, allowing you to add an interface such as a serial port (RS232/RS422/RS485) or fieldbus connection.
The CX5000 series features an EtherCAT slave function that turns the module into a programmable local controller on an EtherCAT network.
The operating system for these devices can be Windows Embedded CE 6 or Windows Embedded Standard 2009. The removable CF card, accessible via the panel, serves as boot and storage media. This CF card is a substitute for a hard disk and stores the operating system and TwinCAT and user projects. This enables a quick hardware replacement or software update.
